Heart Healthy Valentine

Before you give your heart away this Valentine’s Day, make sure it’s in good shape.

Keeping your heart strong and healthy is essential to everyday life. Did you know..... on average, the heart pumps about 72 times per minute? This means your heart beats about 103,680 times a day while pumping about 2,000 gallons of blood through your body. With your heart working this hard every day, it is very important to keep it as healthy as possible.

There are many supplements that can help keep your heart healthy.
Supplementing with healthy fats like the Omega-3 and Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) can help lower blood pressure, keep blood triglycerides in check (high triglycerides are generally linked with increased risk of heart disease), may inhibit the progression of atherosclerosis, and may also offer relief from atherosclerosis and other inflammatory conditions of the heart or circulatory system.

Supplements such as B-6, B-12, and folic acid (also known as folate) can help control levels of homocysteine in the blood. This is important because high homocysteine levels are one of the lesser-known risk factors for heart disease. In fact, high homocysteine levels may be present in otherwise healthy patients. High homocysteine can make blood clot more easily than it should, increasing the risks of stroke and blood vessel blockages, and has also been linked to increased risk of atherosclerosis, premature coronary artery disease, stroke, and venous blood clots. Supplementing with B-6, B-12 and folic acid helps the body process homocysteine properly and turn it into other amino acids.

People who do not eat fish are likely to lack the Omega-3 EFAs, and supplements are an excellent solution. A multivitamin containing B vitamins, or a separate multi B vitamin formula, is an excellent way to get B6, B12, and folic acid. These supplements are just a few of the many beneficial supplements that play a role in supporting the body and which work synergistically for overall health.
