Multivitamins for the New Year

Many people make a New Year’s Resolution. Sometimes it is to make more money, or to lose weight, eat healthier, and exercise. Unfortunately, the majority of New Year’s Resolutions do not last through January. Well, the money part of the resolution might be harder, but it can be easy to get on the right track to a Healthier Lifestyle. Just add a daily multivitamin into your plan.

Multivitamins can be a big asset in your pursuit of a Healthy Lifestyle. They provide a convenient way to take a variety of supplemental nutrients in a single product, instead of a handful of individual nutrients.

The average American is lacking nutrients from their daily diet. The elderly, those on restrictive diets, people with digestive disorders, and even people eating a normal diet, may not be getting enough of certain vitamins. In 2002, the USDA found that 93 percent of Americans don't get the US Daily Value of vitamin E, slightly more than 50 percent fall short on Magnesium, 44 percent do not eat enough vitamin A, about a third eat too little vitamin C and 14 percent skimp on foods rich in vitamin B6, which is important for protein metabolism.

Also in 2002, the Journal of the American Medical Association began recommending that all adults, regardless of age or health status, take a daily multivitamin. This recommendation was based on comparisons of many long term studies, which showed that vitamin deficiencies are strongly linked to a wide range of illnesses and diseases, such as cancer and coronary heart disease.

The JAMA’s researchers concluded that, “It’s rare to find a health-promoter that offers such a substantial benefit with a relatively low cost and low risk of problems, and when you have such a thing, you ought to jump on it.”

It’s easy to take a daily multivitamin, and it can also allow you to say, “I stuck to my New Year’s Resolution and started following a Healthier Lifestyle.” This could be the first stepping stone to a healthier new you in the New Year!
